“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). The name Jesus means “the LORD saves.”

Salvation is the process by which God rescues us from sin and death and gives us the gift of eternal life. In order to be saved, we must put our trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. This means that we believe that He is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins and rose again from the dead. When we put our faith in Him, we are forgiven of all our sins and given eternal life.
Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). To know Jesus as a savior means to have faith in Him and Him alone and be willing to believe that He is the only way.
But what does it mean to know Jesus as Savior?
The Scriptures say that all have sinned and are in need of a Savior. I have sinned, and you have sinned. And because we have all sinned, we have been kicked out of the presence of God. Sin will lead to eternal separation from God. And “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
The requirement for our salvation is that someone must die to pay for our sin. And that someone has to be sinless, spiritually alive, and human like us. Since all of Adam’s race died because of sin, man is helpless and doomed to suffer eternal death. This is when the Love of God shined forth. “God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 
But what must one do to be saved?
Repent and Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Turn to Jesus, accept His sacrifice on the cross for you, and believe in His bloodshed for your redemption. Follow the steps:
Now speak to the Lord Jesus by yourself with words from your heart conveying the same meaning as the ones below:
- Thank Him for dying for you,
- Thank Him for carrying your sins on the cross, for suffering and paying for them;
- Tell Him you want Him to be your Savior from now on.
- Tell Him you are submitting your life to Him, that you want Him to be Lord of your life from this moment on. Romans 10:9.
Now Believe and Confess JESUS as your Lord, Savior, and King. Open your mouth and declare that Jesus is your Savior and that you accept Him as your Lord from this moment on. Speak these words with your whole heart:
Believe In Your Heart that “Jesus is Your Savior”
- I believe in my heart Jesus Christ is the Son of God
- I believe He suffered and died on the cross for me and paid for my sins. He was made sin for me.
- I believe He was buried and rose on the third day for my justification. He was made sin for me, and I have been made righteous by His death and resurrection.
Declare With Your Mouth, “Jesus Is Lord”
- I confess Jesus Christ is my Savior, Lord, Physician, and King.
- Now, according to God’s Word, I am saved.
- Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved” (Rom 10:9-11)
Grow in Your Relationship with Jesus
The next step is to commit to prayers and study the Word of God. As we grow in our relationship with him, we can experience the many blessings that come from knowing him as our Savior. Through this relationship, we can experience forgiveness, joy, strength, and transformation. May we all seek to know Jesus as Savior and grow in our relationship with him.
The Benefits of Knowing Jesus as Savior
Knowing Jesus as our savior brings us many benefits. Here are some of the benefits of knowing Jesus as our savior:
- We can be forgiven of our sins and be reconciled with God.
- We can experience the power of His grace and mercy.
- We can receive His healing and be made whole.
- We can experience His love and friendship.
- We can experience His peace and joy.
- We can have hope for the future.
- We can be assured of our salvation.
- We can receive strength to face the challenges of life.
- We can have eternal life.
These are just some of the benefits of knowing Jesus as our savior. As we come to know Him more deeply, we will discover more and more of the benefits He brings to our lives.
