Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.Â
Pray Without Ceasing
Learn to worship by yourself in your room. Close your door and pray out so you can hear yourself pray. Pray using the word of God so you can hear the words. This will eventually generate faith in you. Pray all those verses of scriptures in the section above until they become part of you, until your spirit absorbs them and they mix with faith in you. Then you will reap the blessings in those verses of Scripture. This is the way not to fall short of inheriting the promises of God..Â
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.Â
Sing songs of praise by yourself in your room. If you don’t have a personal room, park your car somewhere and sing there. Practise worshipping the Lord alone with the same songs you sing during corporate worship with your local congregation or fellowship. Don’t worry if you don’t have an angelic voice, you’re not alone. Sing from your heart. Sing in the spirit and sing with understanding also. God is really seeking those who would worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Melody is good, but that’s not what He’s looking for. He’s looking at our hearts to see how much we love Him and if our worship is sincere or not.Â
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Eph 6:18).Â
We are admonished here by Apostle Paul to pray continually. And to always pray in the Spirit. We should not pray in the flesh or making selfish requests to satisfy the flesh. We should pray in submission to God’s will, pray under the control and inspiration of the spirit, or pray under the unction and by the utterance of the spirit. We would also be more effective if we let the Spirit help us in our praying:Â
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Rom 8:26).Â
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my under- standing is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also (1Co 14:14-15).Â
The Hour of Edification
In your private prayer times, cultivate the habit of much praying in tongues. Do it with your whole being concentrating on the Lord in worshipful adoration. And as you pray fervently in tongues, listen attentively at the same time, for that is the atmosphere from within which the Holy Spirit will be speaking to you and giving you divine revelation. That is when He imparts faith into you from the word of God you’re praying. That is when your healing manifests from the realm of the spirit. That when the Spirit of God sharpens your spirit as ’iron sharpens iron’. That is the hour of edification. Yes, He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church (1Cor 14:4).Â
When you come before the Most High God, you enter His gates with thanksgiving in your heart and enter His courts with praise.
Use the pattern prayer the Lord left us. Enter with thanksgiving, praise, and worship.
Enter His presence conscious of your relationship. “My Father, Hallowed be Thy Name.“
Then let His will govern your request. Do you really want something that is contrary to His will?
Present your requests. Ask, and you shall receive. But don’t ask for things to satisfy the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. These are of the world. You are not of this world. And the world will pass away and the lust in it, but all who do the will of God will abide forever.
Pray in the Spirit.Â
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (Jude 1:20).Â
Set enough time aside for prayer and the word. Morning quiet time is good, but sometimes, it may become choked by the thoughts of having to get ready to go to work or school that the attention of spirit, soul, and body may not be 100%. And for those who have been doing this for years it may become another boring mindless routine that has no life and lack inspiration.
Yes, routine is good, brings consistency; but may be totally insufficient to make you strong in faith. You need to set aside chunks of time for fasting and prayer, and meditation on the word of God under the tutelage of the Holy Ghost.Â
Fasting is to bring the body or the flesh under the control of the spirit. Fasting does not bribe God to answer your prayers or give you more power, all it does is to weaken the inhibitor of our spiritual progress. It can silence the voice of the flesh that’s always busy ’selling and buying merchandise in the temple’ when our spirit man is trying to worship the Most High. It can help in the development of the hidden man of the heart with uninterrupted attention when the Anointing that teaches is edifying the inner man. We are able to focus our attention and energy on what the Holy Spirit is teaching us, even as He “teaches our hands to war, and our fingers to fight” (Ps 144:1).Â
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Eph 6:10-13).Â
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled (2Co 10:6).Â
