Oh Yes, you can know the Bible from cover to cover and master all the theological knowledge and not have the faintest clue of what God is saying in the Holy Scriptures. The holy Scriptures is given to us to reveal the mind of God. No man, however intelligent, can understand the mind of God from reading or studying the Bible without the revelation of the Holy Spirit. Yes he can accumulate the letter, but he will miss the entire substance.
Scriptural Understanding Comes Only through the Holy Spirit
“For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God”.
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1Cor 2:12-14).
As children of God, we must let the word of God dwell in us richly. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Col 3:16).
This is the major raw material for faith. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom 10:17).
Up to this point in this section, we have been discussing several passages of Scriptures relating to salvation. The word of God provides solution that covers every area of our lives and all facets that pertain to life and godliness. We will include a few Scriptures here which will help us develop in faith as we meditate upon them.
You and I are spirit beings, but the outer realms of soul and body, the flesh life, cover the inner-man up. It’s only the living Word of God which comes sharper than a two-edged sword that can pierce our soul (carnal mind) in order to break it away from the spirit; “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit…” (Heb. 4:12). And the Lord God Almighty has magnified His word above all His name.
“I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name” (Ps 138:2). “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (Joh 1:1).
The Almighty God has highly exalted our Lord the Christ and set Him in the highest position in the heavens. He is the head over all things. He is also the head of the Body. After He overcame and became Lord of all, that is Lord in heaven, Lord over the earth, and lord over all things underneath the earth, He came to His disciples and said:
“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Mat 28:18-20).
Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psa 119:89).
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Num 23:19).
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it” (Isa 55:10,11).
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Cor 1:20).
“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jer 29:11).
“Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me” (Isa 49:16). And “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matt 10:30).
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD” (Isa 54:17).
“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling; For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone” (Psa 91:9-12).
“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jer 29:11).
“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Php 4:19).
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt 6:33).
“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luk 6:38).
“But to you that fear my name, shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings” (Mal 4:2).
“My son, attend to my words; incline thy ear to my sayings. Let them not depart from thy eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart. For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (Prov 4:20-22).
“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses” (Matt 8:16,17).
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed (1 Pet 2:24).
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isa 53:4,5)
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luk 10:19).
“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (Mark 16:16-18).
“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matt 28:18-20).
