Remove Hinderances to Exercising Dominion
The following factors will prevent the child of God from exercising dominion in this life.
- Absence of total submission to God: Authority always comes from the one who has the authority over us. When we obey God the dominion and authority we exercise comes from God. And when we submit to God and obey Him— we reign in Life as kings! The solemn fact is that all who would reign with Christ must first of all be subject to Him and be ruled by Him.
- Ignorance of the Will of God, and the purpose of God for the hour: The Lord taught us to pray—“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. We cannot be proficient in exercising dominion on earth except we know God’s will. We can only unlock on earth what is already unlocked in heaven.
- Living by sense or head-knowledge truth instead of spiritual or revelation knowledge that leads to faith will prevent a child of God from exercising dominion. Spiritual authority or dominion from God cannot be received or exercised through natural or sense-knowledge medium. They are spiritual and supernatural. They can only be spiritually received, accessed, and exercised. We can never see, understand, or receive kingdom dominion through head-knowledge or by any natural means or religious activities. They are spiritual and belong to the faith realm. And faith is based on the Word of God that has been revealed to new-creation human spirit by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
- Slothfulness: This will be a hinderance in the faith walk and in exercising dominion. “That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. (Heb 6:12).
Build up your Faith—But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, (Jude 1:20).
And Be Diligent—“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 1:5-8).
5. Indifference: A spiritually cold believer who lacks zeal, lives a prayer-less life, and is too busy to have time for God should forget about exercising dominion. He’s probably been captured by the cares of this world and have no passion for the things of God.
6. Worldliness: Preoccupation with the world is a sure hinderance.“Love not the world, neither the things thatare in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 Jn 2:15). The Achans in the congregation of God’s people can never operate in this realm of power and dominion for they are just in it for worldly gain. They seek-
-Babylonian garments,
-Name and Fame; They use their faith mainly for personal gain. They may claim they are doing it for the gospel, but their name is boldly engraved on the glory of the “ministry outcome” while they even exploit their brethren and do all manner of shady things for personal gains;—supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7. Never growing up: Ever learning and never coming to the knowledge of the Truth. “Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons (Gal 4:1-5).
School of Dominion: The Making of the Man of God
A man like Saul, man’s choice, can be anointed, acclaimed as king, and immediately begin to do exploits for the nation. Not so with David, God’s man for the throne. Yes, he had a very notable victory over the Philistines, and served as an anointed musician under Saul for a while with great success. But he must go through many deep waters and dark valleys and suffer much persecution, frustration, and perplexity, before he could be entrusted to rule and reign over Israel. He must go through God’s school for overcomers before ascending to the throne.
If you desire to rule and reign with Christ, dear friend, you must submit and go through God’s school for overcomers. You must learn, train, practice, and acquire the skill and discipline of overcomers. There are no shortcuts, and no one can skip any class. And you must pass the tests yourself.
One begins in God’s School of Overcomers in the first grade. You start with learning “1,2,3”.. and ‘ABC’s. God opens the class with the “Introduction to Dominion” lecture. He gently introduces us to “how to rule and reign in life” over the things in our personal lives.
We can never rule anything until first we overcome it within ourselves. To “overcome” means to rise above that which confronts us. When, within ourself, we rise up above the circumstance, the problem, so that it no longer controls us, then we are ready to take control of it, and no longer be a victim of that circumstance. The goal that God Almighty wants to achieve with His School of dominion is that none of the graduates from the school will ever be a victim of anything or any circumstance in the universe. And that all will be a master of them all.
After teaching the ABC lesson to His first graders, God would then take them out of the classroom and thrust them into the real-life situation where they have to apply the principles just learnt. And they must all pass the real-life scenarios presented them before promotion to the next grade. All of us, who have the desire to reign with Him must go through the school of dominion. We can lean on Him, ask for help, and rely on Him for support and sustenance, and He will always be available. He knows what it’s all like. He can sympathize with us because He’s our High Priest, and has gone through all these before us.
“Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (Heb 5:2-9). Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
He has taken all these tests before and had a perfect score, and He did them as a ‘man’ like us, so He knows and can sympathize with us in the pains we are going through. God wants us to confront these obstacles with His Word and not back out. He is ruling for us and expecting us to utilize the things we have learnt from Him to level this obstacle in our way to become a plain. For “Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it” (Zec 4:7). It’s “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord”.
Don’t Run Away From the Mountain, Confront It..
Confront the mountain by the Word of God. Speak to it. Tell it to move in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Don’t run away from it. One can never become an overcomer while running from the test or the battle. There are many believers who want to go through life without the need to fight the fight of faith. to overcome the things that are confronting them. Every time they come across a hard place in life, they look for a carnal way out. The carnal mind drags them further and further into emotional and mental bondage. These folk will run to the next town, to the next church, to the next miracle and healing evangelist instead of relying on the mighty Holy Spirit within them to help them overcome by the Word of God. They seek the path of least resistance and do whatever is convenient. Thus refusing to grow into maturity.
Other simply avoid the obstacle altogether by changing lanes while they run and keep running from the problems. Do you know what they’ll find in the new place they ran to when they finally arrive? The thing they’re trying to escape is there, waiting for them.
But how? They carried it with them. What God wants His children to do is to stop running, submit to Him, resist the devil, face the issue, and by the Spirit and the Word receive help, and become an overcomer.
Men of God never seek escape from the difficulties of the way, whatever the issue may be. In fact, it is when we evades the pathway of the will of God that we discovers greater difficulties, as prophet Jonah soon realized. The world’s greatest men not only faced difficulties but conquered them; the pioneering fathers of faith not only hewed their way through the trackless forests but laid the foundations of what we all enjoy today.
When you are in difficult situation the way it will affect will differ depending on how you view the situation. Most of the difference will always lie in whether you view it as a problem or a challenge. If you perceive an obstacle in your path as a problem, you will entertain negative emotions with respect to it. Such emotions like fear, frustration, despair, hopelessness, and depression. These emotions, like gravediggers, carve out a pit of failure in which to bury the one who nurtures them.
On the other hand, if somehow the Holy Spirit gives you a revelation of it, if you can see by the inspiration of the Almighty that the obstacle as a challenge, you can begin to move in a spiritual attitude of faith, peace, rest, joy, and power. These supernatural forces, the fruit of the Spirit, will energize you and propel you over and above the obstacles bringing you victory. You have overcome the situation and it doesn’t matter how high the mountain is when you are flying over it.
Overcoming means gaining victory over the situation that has been a serious obstacle and a clog in the wheel of progress. Deliverance will not get the job done here. In deliverance God takes something away from you or pulls you out of the problematic environment. But in the processing of overcomers, God’s sons are being trained to develop themselves so they can go over the hurdles. Then may struggle at first, meet with frustration, but as they begin to deal with the root of the trouble within themselves by the word of God, faith rises in them, and they persevere until they are propelled over the situation. The obstacle is not taken away, they’ve just built enough supernatural power to overcome it. And they have also learnt how to overcome other obstacles of similar size and can be trusted and delegated to man that environment.
